Hey guys,
Designboom isn't a blog, but it has some interesting things across the spectrum of the design field. I think it's important to question how typography and design resonates within the environment - What is it connected to and the different responses that people have. I think part of the problem when people view graphic design as something separate is because some designers/graphic artists don't realise its holistic nature when they produce it.
This short article 'shepard fairey sentenced to two years' probation' (http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/11/view/6978/shepard-fairey-sentenced-to-two-years-probation.html) is great because it points out a few issues that effect the artwork:
- What are the boundaries of public/private space?
- What kinds of associations are made with the style?
- How does publicity effect the distribution of the image?
- How does the environment effect the experience of the work (online/public property)?
When speaking of graphic design and typography it's just as important to realise its context not just the way it looks.
